The Association of Phoneticians and Phonologists in Nigeria ( APPN) admits into its membership any of the following categories of academics and professionals:
- Lecturers, teachers, or trainers of the spoken language
- Researchers of the phonetic sciences or phonology
- Professionals that are into public speaking or elocution in media or broadcasting institutions
- Those in academic institutions that have clearly defined their areas of interest as phonology and Phonetics of any language, such as English, other Nigerian languages, including. Pidgin and French.
- Speech pathologists assisting the dyslexic, aphasic, stutterers etc.
- Artistes that are consistently involved in public speaking or shows, exploring and exploiting sound or pronunciation in audience control
- Machine voice analysts (Robotics and AI speech data analysis).
