GOALS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF PHONETICIANS AND PHONOLOGISTS IN NIGERIA (APPN)
The Association has its members in several higher institutions in Nigeria including Media institutions. The goals of the Association include:
- Promoting the ideals of scholarship and protecting the interest of Phoneticians and Phonologists in ways that guarantee their productivity
- Engendering innovative paedagogy and facilitating the collection, annotation, transcription and documentation of phonetic and phonological data of Nigerian languages and dialects; including Pidgins, Creoles, and English varieties in both native and non-native environments
- Collaborating with professional bodies, Media institutions and professionals in related disciplines to promote native-like and intelligible pronunciations of languages via workshops for schools, etc.
- Publishing ground breaking research in the phonological sciences using methodical and methodological perspectives that are multidisciplinary in nature
- Encouraging postgraduate studies in phonetics and phonology to enhance the quality and quantum of elocution practitioners in Nigeria.
